Youngster grateful for Mestalla chance after injury-hit season

Sergio Canales is determined to repay the faith shown in him by Valencia after they completed a permanent deal for the playmaker. Canales was regarded as Spain's brightest young talent when he joined Real Madrid from Racing Santander in 2010. But the 21-year-old saw his development stutter at the Bernabeu and a loan move to Valencia last season was hampered by injury. Despite those problems, Los Che were still keen to make the temporary switch a permanent one and Canales is feeling inspired by that show of support. "I am very thankful and excited more than ever to return to the field and give the same effort that Valencia have made for me," he told the club's official website. "The club has bet and trusted in me which makes me feel very happy and now I am only thinking about my recuperation and helping the team as much as I can. "I have also noted the huge affection of the fans in every moment and I want to show them my best performances." Canales made 11 Primera Liga appearances last season during his loan at the Mestalla and scored one goal.
