Real Sociedad striker Gari Uranga will miss the remainder of the season after damaging knee ligaments against Sevilla on Sunday.
The Basque outfit, who are deep in relegation trouble, picked up a valuable point following a battling 0-0 draw, but saw the result tempered by the injury to their forward.
Uranga was forced from the field 15 minutes from time after coming off worse in a challenge with Sevilla's Marti.
The 26-year-old was taken to hospital and tests on Monday confirmed Sociedad's fears about the severity of the problem.
Uranga has torn the lateral ligament in his left knee and damaged meniscus.
The player will have surgery to correct the injury, but is likely to be sidelined for around six to eight months.
