Lee Chun-soo will leave Real Sociedad to return to his native Korea with Ulsan Tigers.
The Tigers are believed to be prepared to pay $2 million, just over half the amount they received when they sold Lee to Sociedad in 2003.
Sociedad announced that Lee will remain with them until the summer to participate in their Peace Cup pre-season tour of Korea.
The 23-year-old has not had the expected impact since moving to La Liga following an impressive role in South Korea's move through to the World Cup semi-finals in 2002.
Lee has never elevated himself into a regular, and was loaned out to Numancia last August.
