Ronaldo and Messi in great form

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were both in fine form as Real Madrid and Barcelona both won 4-1 on Sunday. Real had to come from behind at the Santiago Bernabeu as Athletic Bilbao took the lead the on 13 minutes, with Fernando Llorente firing home. But Real were soon level, with Brazilian Marcelo converting after good work from Karim Benzema. Cristiano Ronaldo then added two penalties before Jose Callejon completed the scoring four-minutes from time. Lionel Messi was at his brilliant best as he grabbed a hat-trick in Barcelona's 4-1 win at Malaga. The Andalusia club had no answer to the Catalan giants - who led 1-0 at the break through Messi. Alexis Sanchez then doubled their advantage just after the break before Messi competed his treble. Malaga claimed a late consolation through Salomon Rondon.

Third placed Valencia were denied victory at Osasuna after a dramatic finale in the Basque country. Valencia thought they had won when Roberto Soldado pounced just five-minutes from time. Real Mallorca moved four-points clear of the drop-zone after a 1-0 win at Rayo Vallecano with Ivan Ramis grabbing the winner just before the hour.
