Hugo Almeida scored a late winner and a vital away goal for Werder Bremen in their Uefa Cup last 16 tie against Celta Vigo.

The game in Spain looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw with less than ten minutes remaining, but the substitute popped up to get a timely goal.

Almeida headed home from Torsten Frings' cross on 84 minutes to give the visitors the lead going into the second leg.

With an away goal and the home leg to come, Bremen will be heavy favourites to advance to the quarter-finals.

Bremen host Celta in the second leg at the Weser Stadion next Wednesday.
