Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente is determined to win the Europa League to cap a memorable European campaign.

Athletic face Atletico Madrid in the final of the competition in Bucharest on Wednesday evening.

The Basque side are below Atletico in the league but have saved their finest displays for continental competition.

In particular, Llorente feels Athletic's impressive last 16 win over Manchester United - in which they outplayed and beat the Premier League champions both home and away - has given the team real belief.

The 27-year-old Spain international told reporters: "We have really had a great season in Europe, and that makes us even more determined to win the final.

"By winning it, we want to make sure the incredible win at Old Trafford will not just be remembered as a great night during a positive European campaign which we didn't win.

"One year ago, nobody would even have imagined that we could enjoy such a successful campaign. We now have to rise to the occasion, and end the season on a high."

Pedigree

Marcelo Bielsa's men must still get past an Atletico side with great pedigree in this competition, having won the Europa League in 2010.

And they are in good form under former Argentina international Diego Simeone with no defeats in their last seven games.

Llorente is not taking his team's Spanish opponents lightly, adding: "We know Atletico really well. They have changed a lot since the arrival of Simeone.

"I don't know how he has done it, but he has done a great job. They have been very impressive in Europe."
