Injury blow for Guerrero

Athletic Bilbao's Julen Guerrero is facing three weeks out of action due to a thigh injury.

Athletic Bilbao's Julen Guerrero is facing three weeks on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury.

Guerrero originally damaged his thigh during Athletic's 3-1 Copa del Rey win at Hospitalet last week.

He underwent intensive physio work and made the bench for the 1-1 draw at Espanyol, but has now aggravated the complaint in a training session.

Athletic doctors have diagnosed a small tear in the 31-year-old's left thigh and he will be sidelined for the best part of a month.

The news will come as a blow to Guerrero who has managed to force himself back into the first-team picture at San Mames following the recent return of Javier Clemete as manager.

He was out of favour under previous coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, and his predecessor Ernesto Valverde, and has scarcely featured over the past couple of seasons.
