Julen Guerrero has hit out at critics who he believes have overlooked what he has achieved in the game after his recent spell out of the Athletic Bilbao side.

The Spain international midfielder has been confined to just four substitute appearances so far this term under new Athletic boss Ernesto Valverde, but insists he is prepared to stay and fight for his place.

However, Guerrero is unhappy at some of the recent criticism that has been levelled at him, and claims he has never had problems with any coach he has worked with during his career.

"Some people speak about me without looking at what I have done, the numbers are there for anybody who wants to check," stated the 29-year-old.

"I have played regularly under every manager I have had.

"I accept (my current predicament) with tranquillity, I want to play every Sunday and I will continue to train as I always do and with the same enthusiasm.

"What is clear is that I want this situation to turn around, and to start playing regularly.

"That is what any player in my situation would want."
