Some pundits criticised his decision to leave Francisco Javier Yeste and Julen Guerrero on the bench until the 85th minute, and there were complaints over the tactics employed by the hosts.
The former Real Zaragoza, Salamanca and Celta Vigo boss thinks a draw would have been a fairer result, but he was not convinced by some of his players' performances.
"I don't want to personalise the defeat on anybody," he admitted. "Yesterday, I said that we would have lost more goals but nobody knows.
"Every time, you think that substitutions are for the better."
There were harsh words for his forwards, as Rojo added: "It is one thing to arrive and another to thing to be there.
"If you are there but there is not movement, the only thing you do is block the midfielders' work.
Although the defeat on Sunday hampers Athletic's hopes of playing in the Uefa Cup next season, the experienced coach still wants his players to battle on.
"There are ten matches left and we have to play 100 percent," he stated. "All the matches are important and, until the last moment, nothing is decided."
