Real Betis defender Paolo Castellini has suffered a major setback in his attempts to return from injury.

The Italian defender tore ligaments in his right knee in October and, following an operation, was scheduled to be out of action until March.

However, he has now aggravated the injury and requires further surgery to correct it.

The stopper will definitely not play again this season, and the news has heightened Betis' desire to sign another left back.

Los Verdiblancos are purported to be tracking Portuguese duo Miguelito (Rio Ave) and Jorge Ribeiro (Gil Vicente), and could well move for one of the pair as Luis Fernandez is currently the only left back on the books at Estadio Ruiz de Lopera.
