Real Betis are considering a move for Club Brugge full back Peter van der Heyden.Real Betis are considering a move for Club Brugge full back Peter van der Heyden.
The Primera outfit are scouring the market for a left back after losing Italian Paolo Castellini for around six months with a knee ligament injury.
Betis are now desperately short of cover at left back, having let Mingo go out on a season-long loan to Albacete.
As a result, Luis Fernandez is now the only recognised left back at the club, and boss Lorenzo Serra Ferrer is keen to sign a replacement when the transfer window reopens.
Van der Heyden has emerged as a target and his contractual status has only served to increase Betis' interest.
The Belgium international will become a free agent in June, and it is understood that Brugge would rather offload him for a reduced fee in January than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.
However Los Verdiblancos will face competition for the 28-year-old as Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are also tracking him.
Another name Betis are considering is Cadiz's Raul Lopez, but van der Heyden is thought to be their number one target.
