Martin Palermo has joined Segunda Liga side Alaves after Real Betis agreed to cancel his current contract.

The Argentinian striker was unhappy at the amount of action he was getting in Seville and had agreed on a deal to drop down to Division Two to join Alaves.

The 2001 Uefa Cup finalists where happy to take him on but he was still contracted to Betis.

The Primera Liga side have now agreed to release him from his contract and he is delighted to have joined Alaves.

"I am here to prove that I am a good player, something I wasn't able to do at Betis," said Palermo.

"I want to help the team gain promotion to the First Division."

Alaves were relegated last season but have a chance of bouncing straight back as they currently sit in sixth place in the table.
