REAL BETIS have been handed a blow with the news that key midfielder Marcos Assuncao will be out of action for around a month after further damaging an ankle injury.

The Brazilian sustained the damage in last weekend's league encounter with Malaga.

The former Roma star started the game with the ankle already injured, but had to leave the field of play after a heavy challenge caused more extensive damage.

Assuncao will now spend 17 days at complete rest before starting a two-week recuperation programme.

The midfielder will now definitely miss crunch league games against Valencia and Celta Vigo, and most probably also Atletico Madrid.

The news adds to Betis boss Victor Fernandez's injury headaches with defender David Rivas, striker Alfonso and winger Denilson already ruled out for the foreseeable future with knocks.
