Osasuna boss Javier Aguirre has agreed to extend his contract at the Primera side for another season.

The Mexican coach's current deal is due to expire at the end of the month and there had been speculation he would move on.

He was linked with Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna over the last few months, but he has opted to stay on in Navarra.

The offer of the one-year extension from Osasuna had been on the table for some time, but Aguirre made it clear he would delay his decision until the campaign had finished.

It did so last week when they were edged out in the Copa del Rey final by Real Betis, but that defeat did not ultimately affect his decision.

Next season will be Aguirre's fourth in charge of the club, and they will be playing Uefa Cup football.

Meanwhile, Osasuna defender Carlos Cuellar will go under the knife for surgery to a knee ligament complaint on Tuesday.
