TOUGH tackling centre back Miguel Angel Nadal could be sidelined from duty for up to two months after tearing ligaments in his right knee.

The former Barcelona hatchet man had scans on the troublesome knee on Saturday and was declared unfit to link-up with team-mates for the match against Malaga on Sunday.

It is a bitter blow for Mallorca as they aim for a place in the Champions League and currently stand seventh in La Primera Liga.

The 36-year-old was involved in a freak training ground accident on Saturday morning when he collided with the equipment manager Alberto Cifuentes, as the team were winding down in their preparations for the game against Malaga.

The Spanish veteran of three World Cup campaigns, has not been given a date to resume training but it is believed he will be out for 6-8 weeks.

Doctors at the club cannot reveal the true extent of the damage done because of the swelling on Nadal's knee and will carry out further tests as soon as the swelling declines.
