Out-of-favour Tottenham forward Giovani Dos Santos has seen a proposed move to Villarreal collapse following their relegation from the Primera Liga, according to his lawyer.
Spurs had big hopes for Dos Santos when he arrived from Barcelona in 2008, but the Mexican has started just two league games since joining from Camp Nou.
It is thought the North Londoners are keen to clear out some of their fringe players this summer and they are likely to cash in on the 23-year-old, who had appeared set to join Villarreal.
However his lawyer and representative, Vicente Montes, says Dos Santos will not be joining the club following their slide into the Spanish second tier.
"We were very advanced in terms of agreeing for Giovani to play for Villarreal, but that has all collapsed now because they have been relegated," Montes was quoted as saying on the website of Mexican radio station Grupo Formula.
"Villarreal being relegated has affected everything - the transfer, the wages. It would have been different had they stayed in the Primera Division."
Dos Santos, who spent time on loan in Spain at Racing Santander last season, is reportedly keen to try and resurrect his career in La Liga.
