Villarreal defender Gonzalo Rodriguez has agreed a two-year extension to his existing contract.
The Argentine, a fixture in the heart of Villarreal's rearguard, was already tied to the Primera outfit until 2009, but has now committed himself until 2011.
The 21-year-old has proved a revelation since his switch from San Lorenzo in the summer of 2004 and is widely recognised as one of the best central defenders in La Primera.
His form has seen him linked to the likes of Juventus and Barcelona over the past couple of seasons, but Villarreal have now underlined their determination to hold on to him.
The Yellow Submarines will be delighted to have struck the agreement with Rodriguez and are close to clinching a deal to keep fellow defender Juan Manuel Pena at the club.
