Villarreal target Boca star

Boca Juniors star Sebastian Battaglia is rumoured to be close to clinching a transfer to Spanish outfit Villarreal.

A host of European clubs have shown an interest in the talented 23-year-old, including Villarreal's near neighbours, and Primera rivals, Valencia.

Boca president Mauricio Macri confirmed that Battaglia was on the verge of completing a switch to Europe, but insisted it would not happen until after the club's Intercontinental Cup final with Milan.

Villarreal, who already have two former Boca players in Juan Roman Riquelme and Rodolfo Arruabarrena on their books, are thought to have moved into pole position to capture the midfielder after opening negotiations with his South American club.

"Battaglia is very near to being transferred to a European team but it will be after the match that Boca will play in December against Milan in Japan", declared Macri.

Battaglia conceded that he was tempted by a move to Europe, but insisted he did not want to think about the prospect too much before something concrete materialises.

"I heard what the press is saying about the chance of being transferred to Europe next year," he explained.

"I must say that it would be a good chance to improve my career, but as in other moments it was also said that I was going to be transferred and nothing happened I prefer in this moment not to think about it.

"In addition to that Boca is fighting for winning a local title and we have to play against Milan in December so at the moment I prefer to put my mind only on that."
