Villarreal have agreed the transfer of Argentine midfielder Sebastian Battaglia subject to receiving international clearance.

The Primera outfit have settled terms with the player's club Boca Juniors, though details of the deal have yet to be confirmed.

The 23-year-old will join the 'Yellow Submarines' when the transfer window reopens in January, after having played for Boca against Milan in the Intercontinental Cup final.

It is believed Battaglia will join on an initial loan deal until the end of the current campaign, whereupon a four-year deal will be available should both parties agree.

Meanwhile, Villarreal have also revealed that club captain Quique Alvarez is close to penning a new long-term deal at the club.

The 28-year-old defender's current contract expires in June, but the player is keen to extend his stay at El Estadio Madrigal and admits initial talks with the club have gone positively.

"You could say there will not be many problems, because both parties have the same interest," commented Alvarez.

"The first point of contact was very positive and now there are just a few loose ends to sort out.

"Ever since I arrived at Villarreal I have been very happy, and for that reason my main objective is to stay."
