VILLARREAL front-man Martin Palermo finally got back amongst the goals last weekend, some six months after his last strike in La Liga competition.

The Argentinian arrived in Spain with a huge reputation, but has fallen on barren times in recent history as Villarreal have made a poor start to the current campaign.

Palermo recaptured his goalscoring touch thanks largely to a defensive blunder from Mallorca player Marcos who conceded possession after wrongly believing his keeper had called for the ball.

The last time 29-year-old Palermo had found the net was on the penultimate weekend of last season, in a 2-1 win for the 'Yellow Submarines' against Zaragoza.

Strangely enough it was a Palermo goal last term against Mallorca at the San Moix, that gave Villarreal their last away win in the league, 14 months ago.

This time around his goal was good enough for a point, but the former Boca Juniors star was less than keen to discuss the breaking of his personal duck.

Indeed, it was left to club president, Fernando Roig, to expand further.

"It's important that people don't get carried away with the fact that Palermo scored," declared Roig.

"It's great that he has got a goal after such a long time without one, but the what really matters is that Villarreal start winning matches."
