BOCA JUNIORS have announced their intentions to attempt to lure Martin Palermo back to Argentina.

The Argentine giants have been linked with a number of high-profile, potentially costly moves recently, which seems strange given the well publicised problems the country is having economically.

Given the fact that Villarreal seem intent on cultivating their South American contingent, it would appear a strange decision to let Palermo go.

Perhaps most famous for missing three penalties in a game against Colombia in the Copa America, Palermo spent most of last season on the sidelines following a bizarre injury after advertising hoardings collapsed as he celebrated a goal.

Villarreal are gearing up their side to find a partner for Palermo and it would seem unlikely that he would move on, despite saying he was using the Spanish side to secure a move to a bigger club.

The attack was arguably the weak point of the team last term, in Oscar Tabarez's short reign.

Boca are hoping to interest Villarreal in a six-month loan of Palermo, so he would play the second-half of the La Liga season, whilst playing the Clausura tournament in Argentina.

Marcelo Delgado's proposed sale to FC Copenhagen would finance some of the deal, while Roberto Sosa and Paraguayan Jose Saturnino Cardozo have also been sounded out as targets.
