Deportivo La Coruna are to open contract talks with defender Jorge Andrade.
The Portuguese international still has over two years left on his current contract at La Riazor, but Depor are keen to extend his deal in order to fend off any potential suitors.
Real Madrid and Valencia both expressed an interest over the summer in the player, who has long attracted interest from England with Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle all known to have taken a close look at the 28-year-old in the past.
Reports in Spain suggest Real will test Depor's resolve in the winter transfer window by offering players plus cash - but even though they could fetch some é¼12 million for Andrade, the Galician giants want to keep him.
The player's agent Jorge Mendes is now set for talks with president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro in the next few weeks when Depor will initiate talks - although it remains to be seen whether Andrade will want to extend his deal or move on after three years with the club.
