Joan Capdevila has signed a one-year contract extension with Primera Liga side Villarreal.
The Spain international admits he welcomed the offer to prolong his stay and help the club chase a league title.
The defender will now remain with the Yellow Submarines until June 2011, and has not ruled out the possibility of staying beyond that point.
The 30-year-old initially joined the club from Deportivo La Coruna in 2007 and helped Manuel Pellegrini's side finish as runners-up in the Spanish top flight last season.
He also helped his country claim Euro 2008 glory this summer, featuring in all but one of their matches en route to glory in Austria and Switzerland.
Ambitions
"When they offered it to me I didn't have to think about it because I feel at home," said Capdevila.
"I am at a big club, who in the sporting sense are among the highest and want to stay there. The people treat me very well and, on top of that, I am near my hometown.
"Sincerely, I couldn't ask for more. Here I have everything and I would stay here all my life.
"The club's aim is now to win a title and let's hope I can contribute to achieving it, as they have been working very hard for many years to be able to do so."
