Espanyol are closing in on the capture of Dutch international Denny Landzaat.
The 30-year-old is free to clarify his club future following Holland's exit from the World Cup and seems ready to head out of AZ Alkmaar.
Liga side Espanyol claim they are close to striking a deal with the classy midfielder and are set to discuss a financial package with AZ.
"We have almost reached an agreement with the player but need to close the deal with AZ Alkmaar. We are in no rush," Espanyol president Daniel Sanchez Llibre said on Tuesday.
Espanyol only narrowly avoided relegation last term, but did win the Copa Del Rey, and the imminent arrival of Landzaat would appear to suggest that they are determined to avoid another season of toil.
