Espanyol have contacted AZ Alkmaar about the availability of midfielder Denny Landzaat.
The 30-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty with Holland, is keen on a new challenge after playing his entire career in the Dutch leagues.
Espanyol are looking into the possibility of offering Landzaat the chance to ply his trade in Spain but it is not yet known whether they are willing to match AZ's é¼2 million (£1.4 million) valuation.
Landzaat has a year remaining on his current contract with the Eredivisie club but Espanyol technical director Paco Herrera remains confident he will be able to prize the midfielder away from Alkmaar.
"He is a player we are very interested in," Herrera confirmed in Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
"We are full of confidence that we can get a deal done."
