Espanyol eye Sergio return

Espanyol are set to launch a bid to bring Sergio Gonzalez back to the club.

Espanyol are set to launch a bid to bring Sergio Gonzalez back to the club from Deportivo La Coruna.

New coach Ernesto Valverde is keen to bolster the midfield as he looks to reshape the squad after taking over from Miguel Angel Lotina last week.

President Daniel Sanchez Llibre has been interested in re-signing the Spanish midfielder for some time and is thought to be discussing the move with the club's new executive vice-president Pedro Tomas.

Sergio moved to Depor in 2001 after spending eight seasons at Espanyol and his father and agent Avelino Gonzalez is a frequent visitor to Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic, but only to discuss a final payment due to Sergio's current club.

"At the moment there is nothing, but things can change," he stated.

"I've been there a few times in the past few months, but only to talk about money."
