Espanyol land Luis Garcia

Espanyol have ended their hunt for a striker by signing Mallorca's Luis Garcia.

Espanyol have ended their search for a striker by wrapping up a deal for Mallorca's Luis Garcia.

The two teams have concurred on a fee of ‚é¼3 million (£2 million) for the 24-year-old who has only been at Mallorca for 12 months.

He joined from Real Murcia after their relegation in the summer of 2004 and managed 11 goals for The Islanders last term.

Espanyol boss Miguel Angel Lotina will be delighted to land the former Real Madrid man having been looking to bring in a proven goalscorer all summer following Dani's departure from the club.

Lotina had seen bids to land Javier Saviola and Fernando Cavenaghi fail and his team have been desperately short of goals during pre-season.

Garcia, who has penned a five-year deal, becomes the Catalans' eighth signing of the summer and, in all likelihood, their last.

The deal was finalised on Wednesday and Mallorca will now step up their attempts to sign Rosenborg striker Frode Johnsen.

Islanders president Vicente Grande has submitted a new offer to his Rosenborg counterpart and is waiting back to hear if he has been successful.
