Espanyol have suffered a blow to their UEFA Champions League qualification hopes after Ito was ruled out for the final four matches of the season.

The on-loan midfielder tore a calf muscle during the warm-up before the team's clash with Mallorca in the Son Moix on Sunday.

Ito is on loan at the Barcelona-based outfit from Real Betis until the end of the current campaign and has become a regular fixture in Miguel Angel Lotina's side.

The Extramaduran has started 31 games for the Parakeets this term and his absence will force the coach to look for a replacement.

Toni Soldevilla was drafted in for the defeat against Mallorca, but Lotina may well turn to Fredson for the remaining matches against Numancia, Valencia, Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao.
