Espanyol are trying to reach an accord with Fredson regarding a new contract for the Brazilian. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and talks have commenced in a bid to keep Fredson at Montjuic.
But early indications suggest the two parties are poles apart following the opening rounds of negotiations.
Reports claim that Fredson's agent is demanding a four-year contract, with a significant increase in salary.
The Catalan outfit, though, are only prepared to offer the midfielder a two-year deal to remain with the club he joined in 2002.
But, if a compromise can be reached, Fredson appears keen to stay with Espanyol, particularly as the club are only two points off a UEFA Champions League berth.
The 24-year-old said: "I am very happy to be playing in La Liga and, if we qualify for European competition, I want to be playing."
