Espanyol midfielder Fredson will be out of action for around three weeks with a with a muscular injury.

The Brazilian tore a muscle in his right leg during last weekend's defeat at Sevilla.

Also injured in that 1-0 defeat was Alex Fernandez who suffered a neck injury after falling awkwardly from an aerial challenge.

However, the defender is expected to be available for this weekend's game with Atletico Madrid.

Another big boost for the club is the news that captain Raul Tamudo (pictured) should also be fit to line up against Atletico.

The Spain international has been out of action for the past three weeks with a torn thigh muscle, but is scheduled to resume full training in a couple of days.

"Clinically he is perfect, but it is not worth taking risks, for that reason we will do some more tests on Friday," stated club doctor Miguel Cervera.
