ESAPNYOL defender Toni Soldevilla has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, and is now contracted to the Catalan outfit until 2006.

The 24-year-old has had his terms improved by the club, and the news will come as a welcome boost to Espanyol boss Javier Clemente as he attempts to guide the team away from the relegation places.

The Montjuic club are also in negotiations with midfielder Roger whose contract expires in June.

However, talks with the former Barcelona man are thought to be stalling due to Espanyol's limited financial resources.

A host of La Liga clubs are monitoring the 26-year-old's situation and will move should he fail to agree new terms.
