ESPANYOL are believed to have completed the signing of Uruguayan striker Antonio Pacheco whilst Paolo Sousa could also join the Barcelona club next week.

Sousa is reported to be travelling to Spain on Wednesday to undergo his medical as Espanyol continue a tradition of allowing venerable players to see out their days with the team.

The deal is believed to be for the rest of the season with the possibility of buying the player after that although talks of that transfer overshadowed that of Pacheco's.  Although he agreed to the contract offered and seems set to leave Internazionale, the player will still have to complete a medical on Monday.

Pacheco was spotted by compatriot Alvaro Recoba who recommended him to Inter having played against him in the Nacional and Penarol derbies and he eventually moved to Italy, signing a contract until 2005.

Despite two seasons in Italy, Pacheco could not force his way into Inter's side and Espanyol have swooped for the versatile forward.

Assistant manager Emilio Montiagut said: "He can score, is quick, fast and will make a great impact, but he is not too tall."
