ESPANYOL have had mixed fortunes in their attempts to keep two on-loan stars at the club, Jordi Lardin will return to Atletico in the summer whilst Delio Toledo will stay in Catalunya after Udinese agreed to extend his loan for another season.

Jordi Lardin, a fans' favourite with Espanyol, has failed to hold down a regular first team place in his second spell at the club, only appearing for 19 minutes against Alaves and now appears set for a return to Atletico.

After spending most of the past one and a half season on the bench, Lardin has been unable to get to full match fitness and this has affected his game.

However, it is brighter news for Delio Toledo, the Paraguayan international who will stay with Espanyol through the 2001-02 season.

A clause has also been inserted into his contract allowing him to move to the Barcelona-based side if they take up the option to buy the player at the end of next season.

Delio Toledo is currently suspended due to discrepancies with his passport, but Espanyol believe it will be sorted within a matter of days.
