Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida has been banned for three games after being sent off at the weekend.

Marica also suspended for three games before winter break

Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida and Stuttgart forward Ciprian Marica have been banned for three games after being sent off in league matches at the weekend. Portuguese Almeida scored a hat-trick in Bremen's 3-0 win over St Pauli on Sunday, but was sent off with a straight red card 10 minutes from time for lashing out at Carlos Zambrano. Romanian Marica, who was fined €50,000 (£42,100) by his club on Monday for his dismissal, was sent off following a second yellow card in the 16th minute of Stuttgart's 4-2 loss against Hamburg after insulting the referee. He had been given a yellow card seconds earlier but kept protesting to earn his red card. The German federation has now said that, with three games remaining until the winter break, both will be ineligible to play again until January.
