Striker suffers blow to the head

Ciprian Marica has been released from hospital after suffering a head injury during a practice game on Tuesday. The Romanian striker was taking part in a fixture arranged for those players who did not feature in the 0-0 draw with France 24 hours earlier. Marica challenged for a high ball with fellow attacker Marius Niculae, but was sent crashing to the turf by a blow to the back of the head. The Stuttgart man remained grounded for 20 minutes while the national team doctor administered immediate treatment, but was then carried from the field on a stretcher and taken to a nearby medical facility. The Romanian Football Federation later confirmed that the 22-year-old had been released from hospital, and even expect him to be ready for a return to action in "one or two days."

Loss

Victor Piturca's men are due to face World champions Italy on Friday and midfield star Razvan Cocis admits that it would be a blow if his young team-mate was unable to join up with the rest of the squad ahead of that game. "Of course it would be a loss," he said. "But nobody is irreplaceable."
