Serbian striker Veljko Paunovic has left Hannover 96 and returned to Spain, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal with Getafe.

The former Atletico Madrid star endured a nightmare spell at the AWD-Arena after signing during the January transfer window.

He made only four Bundesliga appearances and conceded he made an error in choosing to head for Germany.

"Signing for Hannover was the biggest mistake in my career, the coach wanted me, but the managing director was against my transfer and I don't want to be made the scapegoat any longer," Paunovic declared.

Paunovic's deal with Getafe comes into force on July 1, and he will hope to have more of an impact at the Madrid-based outfit who have comfortably avoided relegation in their first season in the top flight.
