Ivan De La Pena is expected to sign a new two-year deal at Espanyol after deciding his future lies with the Barcelona-based club.
The former Spain international had been linked with an exit from the Primera Liga club but he now looks set to see out his career at Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic.
De La Pena's current deal is due to expire in the summer and talks now seem to be reaching a conclusion regarding an extension for the 'Little Buddha'.
However the player's agent has warned that Racing Santander cold be ready to steal in at the last minute.
"The first pieces [of the new deal] are in place but as Espanyol have reacted late other clubs are also interested," Manel Ferrer told Com Radio.
With Racing hovering, Espanyol president Daniel Sanchez Llibre is keen to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
