Pinilla has Italian option

Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla has an offer to return to a top flight Italian club.

Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla has an offer to return to Serie A for the coming season, according to his agent.

The 22-year-old Sporting Lisbon player was loaned out to Liga side Racing Santander in January, but scored just one goal in eight league appearances at the Estadio El Sardinero.

Santander nevertheless expressed a desire to sign the South American on a permanent basis, but now an Italian side have emerged to compete for the player's signature.

"The player has options but Chievo, Torino and Lazio are just rumours in the press. The club interested is another from the Primera Division," Pinilla's agent Rocco Dozzini confirmed.

The marksman has had a torrid time since moving to Internazionale from Universitad de Chile in the summer of 2003.

He was loaned out to Chievo and Celta Vigo before moving to Portugal two seasons ago, but with youth on his side, there is still plenty of time for him to make his name in the European country of his choosing.
