Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla claims he has finalised a move to Racing Santander and will join when the transfer window reopens.

The 21-year-old is currently on the books of Sporting Lisbon but is out of favour at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and has not started a game this term.

He has now been offered an escape route by Racing who will sign him on loan for the remainder of the season in January with an option to make the deal permanent.

"I am very happy because I already feel like a Racing player now," he stated.

"I am very satisfied because I am going to a club where they really want me and where I will have the opportunity to play, which is the only thing I want at the moment.

"I am very thankful to Sporting and I do not want to criticise anyone, but all I wanted to do was play.

"They can't say that I made any mistakes, the only thing was that the coach didn't like me.

"I did everything I could but it didn't work."

Pinilla has previous experience of the Spanish game having had a loan spell at Celta Vigo two seasons ago.

He will now return to La Primera with a Racing side who currently sit fourth from bottom in the Spanish league and whose need for goals is abundantly clear.
