OMRI AFEK has travelled to Spain for a medical as the Israeli international looks to conclude a deal to join Racing Santander.

The midfielder, whose contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv expired in the summer, is expected to sign a one-year contract and will join fellow national team players Yossi Benayoun and Dudu Awat at El Estadio Sardinero.

"I know I need to be patient and hope that everything will be finalised soon so I can fulfil my dream to play in Europe," explained Afek.

"Santander is a good option after I rejected offers from other teams in Europe to join them."

Afek is hoping to finalise the move before returning to Israel on Sunday to join up with the national squad ahead of their Euro 2004 qualifier against Slovenia on September 6.

The move was made possible after Santander sold fellow Israeli Ilan Bachar to Ashdod SC.
