Genoa set to sign defender and purchase half of striker Immobile

Genoa have beaten off interest from Tottenham and Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Brazilian defender Roger Carvalho, subject to a medical. The 25-year-old, who is owned by Brazilian club Figueirense and was reportedly being tracked by the Premier League side and the Ukrainian outfit, underwent a medical in Italy on Sunday. The centre-back's arrival comes as Genoa also announced they had paid €4m (£3.34m) to Juventus to acquire half ownership of Italian Under-21 international Ciro Immobile. The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Serie B outfit Pescara, where he has notched 16 goals to be top scorer in the division. His loan runs until the summer when he is expected to link up with Genoa. Genoa president Enrico Preziosi told Sky Italia: "Roger Carvalho? He's undergoing medicals, then his signing will be official. "We have also defined the acquisition of half of Immobile from Juventus." Meanwhile, the club have also put in an 'interesting' offer for out-of-favour Fiorentina winger Alessio Cerci. Preziosi added: "Cerci? I don't exclude his arrival, but it's up to Fiorentina. It remains to be seen whether Viola consider our offer interesting."
