Atletico Madrid's injury crisis mounted on Sunday with confirmation of another blow.
Atletico Madrid's injury crisis mounted on Sunday with confirmation that Martin Petrov has been ruled out for the next six months at least.
Petrov suffered knee ligament damage in his team's 2-1 win over Recreativo de Huelva on Saturday, and now joins Argentine forward Maxi Rodriguez, who is also ailing from a similar injury, on the long term injured list.
The innocuous incident took place in the 38th minute of the match against newly-promoted Recreativo during a tangle with Santi Cazorla.
A medical examination on Sunday morning confirmed the club's worst fears and the severity of the injury to the Bulgaria international.
A surgery date has yet to be fixed, but Petrov is unlikely to see action before next April, leaving coach Javier Aguirre to lament: "The bad luck has been incredible - two key players in the team injured in the space of three days!"
