Espanyol have agreed a deal for Atletico Madrid full back Juan Velasco.
The 29-year-old will arrive on a free transfer with Atletico having agreed to annul his contract.
Espanyol have been weighing up a move for the former Spain international all summer, but were somewhat cautious given his problems with injury in recent seasons.
However, their 1-0 defeat to lowly Gimnastic de Tarragona in the first game of the new season last weekend seems to have persuaded them to push the transfer through.
Velasco, who started his career at Sevilla, has five caps to his name but endured a largely disappointing stay at Ateltico.
He will now be hoping to try and resurrect his career at Espanyol.
Meanwhile, Internazionale defender Francesco Coco has expressed a desire to join Espanyol.
The full-back had a spell with Barcelona earlier in his career and would relish the chance to return to the Catalan city with Espanyol."There exists an interest, we have spoken with the club and are hoping they will tell us something," stated the player's father and agent Nino Coco.
"Although Francesco is prepared to stay, he would like the chance to return to Barcelona."
