Novo signs on at Sociedad

Atletico Madrid midfielder Alvaro Novo has left the club and signed for Real Sociedad.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Alvaro Novo has left the club and signed for Real Sociedad.

The 27-year-old had one further season left on his deal with Los Rojiblancos, but opted to annul his contract in search of first-team football.

Novo joined Atletico from Mallorca in the summer of 2003 but, after a decent first season, failed to make much impression at the Vicente Calderon last term.

After being informed he was not in the plans of new boss Carlos Bianchi, he decided on a change of scenery and will be hoping to relaunch his career with Sociedad.

"Everything happened very quickly because we were in agreement right from the very start," Novo said of his move.

"Real Sociedad is the ideal destination for me, it's a big club with a history in La Primera and has everything I need to enjoy my football.

"I didn't doubt going at any moment."

Novo has signed an initial one-year deal with an option to extend it for two more.

Meanwhile, Sociedad's Brazilian defender Adriano Rossato has joined Portuguese outfit Sporting Braga on a season-long loan deal.

The 28-year-old joined Sociedad from Porto last summer but never established himself as a first-team regular.

Braga have an option to complete a permanent deal at the end of the season and it seems likely he has now played his last game for Sociedad as the Basque outfit are keen to rid themselves of his lucrative contract.
