Atletico Madrid are still locked in negotiations for Wolfsburg striker Martin Petrov.

The Primera outfit are thought to have already agreed terms with the Bulgarian international, but have yet to concur upon a fee with his club.

The Bundesliga outfit are refusing to budge from their initial asking price of ‚é¼10 million, while Atletico have thus far offered ‚é¼6 million with a series of add-ons.

The player himself has communicated his desire to head to Spain after four years in Germany and so it seems inevitable a deal will go through in the not too distant future.

Petrov's international coach, Hristo Stoichov has backed the forward to be a huge success in Spain.

The former Barcelona idol believes Petrov would strike up a fearsome partnership with Atletico marksman Fernando Torres.

"Hopefully Atletico will open the door to Petrov to play in Spain because he could bring great happiness to that team," Stoichov told Marca.

"Together with Torres he could form a frightening frontline at Atletico and I'm sure he would bring a lot of joy to Atletico fans.

"He would be a great signing for Atletico Madrid."
