Franco makes Atletico boast

Leo Franco has claimed that Atletico Madrid are the third biggest team in Spain.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Leo Franco has claimed that Los Rojiblancos are the third biggest team in Spain.

Despite another summer of heavy investment, Atletico are struggling to live up to a billing of possible title contenders.

Boss Cesar Ferrando is still trying to construct a side in his own image and recently admitted his team were some way off being 'from another world'.

However, Franco - who arrived at the Vicente Calderon from Mallorca in the summer - insists Atletico must be considered Spain's third biggest outfit, regardless of their current position.

"I'm going to say what I have always said, and what I said when I came: Atletico is the third biggest team in Spain and amongst the best in Europe," he proclaimed defiantly.

"To say anything more would be repeating myself."

Franco also went on to concede he was at fault for the goal Atletico conceded in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Valencia.

"I made a mistake for the goal and that is that," he continued.

"There is another game on Sunday and we have to look forward.

"Afterwards you go over and over it and try to correct the error, but now I must just keep training and try to keep my confidence up."
