The centre back has damaged a metatarsal bone in his right foot, and although he has attempted to play on through the pain barrier it was decided to finally operate on the injury.
The Spanish international was forced out of Atletico's 3-0 home defeat to Valencia in the first half last weekend which precipitated the decision to send him for corrective surgery.
Garcia Calvo is now definitely ruled out of Los Rojiblancos' forthcoming games with Barcelona and Deportivo La Coruna, though could be back in time for Atletico's subsequent outing against Malaga.
