Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu is hoping to make the Spain squad for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 20-year-old did not enjoy the best of debut seasons in England last term, with a lack of first-team football leaving him frustrated on the sidelines.
The youngster is determined to make his mark at Stamford Bridge, though, and believes the Olympics could help to kick-start his Blues career.
Competitive summer football would only be beneficial as he readies himself for the 2012/13 Premier League campaign.
Romeu hopes he will be given the chance to showcase his talents on the world stage - allowing him to catch the eye of those on the coaching staff at Chelsea - but appreciates he faces a tough task to make the cut.
Spain's footballing strength stretches far beyond their senior side and competition for places is as fierce at U23 level as it is for Euro 2012 starting berths.
Spectacular
"Hopefully I can go with the national team but I have to wait and see the squad list, because the level of players that could go to the Olympics is spectacular," said Romeu, who was involved with an U23 side that beat Egypt in February.
"They have been playing for big teams, have won the Europa League or have been playing in finals.
"The Olympics is a once in a lifetime experience and I would like to be there.
"The people of Spain have been spoiled with triumphs recently but Olympic gold is a huge thing.
"To be in London with Spain would be a bit strange, but nice at the same time because it is the city where I live and I enjoy it. To see a completely different atmosphere would be something special."
