Valencia's medical team have denied that the cause of Edu's recent injury is not to do with his weight, but because of his posture.

The Brazilian international stated earlier this week that he believed his knee ligament injury had been caused by the fact that he was underweight.

"I am almost certain, although not 100 per cent because I am not a doctor, that this injury was due to me being too thin," Edu stated.

"I have always weighed around 80 or 81 kilograms, but I could not play when I weighed just 76 or 77 kilos.

"If my leg had been stronger and properly prepared then I would not have been injured again. It was failure on my own part not to recognise that certain things were not right."

Despite the player claiming this was the cause, the club medics believe Edu's second breakdown within months was due to posture.

"We have the data and the opinions of the best orthopeadic surgeons and it is believed that this had nothing to do with his weight," insisted club coach Paco de Miguel.

"The scans show that the injury was likely due to the way that he walks and his posture than anything else.

"I do understand that the player wanted to look for a cause though."
