Francesco Tavano will leave Valencia and sign for Roma during the January transfer window, the Spanish club's president confirmed.
The Italian striker has endured a dismal time at the Mestalla since joining from Empoli for é¼10million (£6.7million) in the summer.
Tavano was unable to make his debut for Los Che until mid-November because of a hamstring complaint.
He has since made five appearances for the club but failed to score and is now surplus to requirements.
The 27-year-old has leapt at the chance to return to his homeland and the deal will be completed early in the New Year.
"We have reached an agreement," Valencia president Juan Soler said.
"The player will return to Valencia on December 28 and join Roma on January 4."
Tavano will be ineligible to play for Roma in the UEFA Champions League having featured against the Giallorossi in the group stages for Valencia.
